Since our sale in January, there has been a bad something going around at work. It is actually just being passed between the managers in the department and me. I have already gotten sick once, but since then I have been doing pretty good about avoiding it. My dad suggested I try drinking a lot of hot tea, and some other of his homemade concoctions, he calls them his herbal treatments, I call them questionable. No matter what I eat before, at, or after work, I am not taking any chances. I keep Purel on every floor, register, and the workbench. I refuse to shake their hand anymore, no offense to them of course, but I have been really paranoid since the last time. When the illness was passed to me I missed four days of work and felt about the worst I had ever felt. I actually try covering up my mouth when one of them walks into the room. They take it as a joke for the most part, but there is always a chance that I do not want to take. Last time I was sick I could hardly pull myself out of bed. This time, I will avoid it like the plague (which it very well could be) and stay as healthy for as long as possible.
I’m so embarrassed—I almost couldn’t face my roommate. Last month, I bought this really dynamite pair of gray slacks to complement my light blue dress shirt. Now I have at least two outfits to wear to dinners and business functions. You’re asking, what’s the problem then? Well, the problem is I don’t have a sufficient amount of wire closet organizers—otherwise known as “hangers.” In my smaller closet space, I have lots of wire dividers, for bookkeeping purposes. But in my clothes closet, I don’t have enough room for all my pants! That’s pretty darned embarrassing. Where am I keeping this delightful new pair of slacks? In a DRAWER. They’re in a little dresser drawer, and God knows I had to fold them up about four times just to get them in there, so you know I’ll have to iron them before actually putting them on: they’re already pretty well wrinkled. My roommate has an iron and a board, so I have to wait until he gets back—which is never—to use them. I do have a family party coming up to celebrate my youngest sister’s engagement. She’s marrying some guy who’s a millionaire. They’re going to live in the Hamptons. Whoop-dee-doo!!! At this point I wouldn’t mind having a single apartment in Queens, for God’s sake. It looks like I’d better wear my old stand-by outfit, the navy-blue slacks, the navy-blue sport coat and my light-blue shirt, for this engagement supper. It’ll be weeks before I can even get in communication with my roommate.

My Mom had to go to a class last night, so left me with my Grandparents. I love staying there because there house is like going back in the past. It is really clean and neat but has a country style to it. I love opening drawers and finding treasures from my Grandparents early years together. Grandma says everything has a place, and everything isin its place. She has a special place where she likes to keep medical supplies. When I got the mail for her today, there was a Free Diabetes Test Kit that was sent to Grandpa. Grandma let me find a place for it with the medical supplies. I also like to go through all of the old novels Grandpa has in his study. I can spend days just browsing through there. I don’t really have to go to the library if I don’t want to. Grandpa even has comic books! Those are my favorite when I have just a few minutes to spend there while Grandma and my Mom talk in the kitchen. I am going to have to start my own library, so that when I have grandkids, they can come over and browse through all the old books that I have collected over the years.
