I should have listened to the people that told me I wasn’t the prime candidate for a personal bankruptcy. I filed after I abused my credit cards, was late on payments that I probably could have made on time and bought a bunch of things that didn’t need. My credit card bills were through the roof, so I figured “I’ll just file for bankruptcy and get all this cleared up.” I just assumed that after my debts were discharged that I would miraculously somehow be more mature. Well the bankruptcy worked out just as planned, my credit card debt was all taken care of and I went right back to my haphazard spending. Before I got the chance to max out all of the credit cards in my name I was involved in a pretty serious accident. It was a hit and run while I was riding my bike home from the gym. I needed surgery but I didn’t have any insurance. The medical bills were astronomical, this is a time where filing for bankruptcy would have been a good choice, but my debts had just been discharged less than two years ago, so I was ineligible to receive any help. I guess people should really focus on their behavior before they decide to file for bankruptcy, because filing at the wrong time can really come back to haunt you.
